Air Jordan's Numbers 1-14 Reviewed!
Air Jordan I -
The Air Jordan 1's was released in 1985 kicking off not only the greatest history in sneakers, but also the greatest history in basketball history.The first round, third overall pick, Michael Jordan, was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984 NBA Draft. Before landing in the NBA, Michael Jordan had a resume that no other player could touch. Michael overachieved in college basketball at North Carolina and helped lead Team USA to a gold medal in the 1984 Olympic Games.Wearing the Air Jordan 1's, Michael Jordan soared in his rookie year.
The Air Jordan 1's are a historical event in sneaker history, Some people could be called sneaker heads, but unless you know your facts and sneaker numbers by heart and where they originate from you're just a hype beast point, blank, period. The Air Jordan 1's come in various different colors but one of the most heard or known packages are the "beginning moment package". In this package comes the Old Love/New Love 1's which are red and yellow 1's. If you're a sneaker collector you've most likely heard/already known about this package and can relate how self-explanatory this package really is. Without the 1's the Air Jordan game and the sneaker game simply wouldn't be the same.

Air Jordan II -
Michael scored an average 37 points per game in the 1986-1987 season and became the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to top 3,000 points in a single season. In the end of November he scored 40 points or more in nine straight games. On April 16th Michael scored a total of 61 points against the Atlanta Hawks setting a new record in NBA history. Michael also played in the All-Star Game with these sneakers, won the Slam-Dunk Championship, and was named to the All-NBA First Team.
The Air Jordan 2's made its first appearance in 1986 and the other three color ways released in 1987. Designer of this model is Bruce Kilgore and Peter Moore, In 1986-87 the Air Jordan 2's priced at $105.00. The Air Jordan 2's have always been very stylish and unique in the sneaker game, Not even comparing to how much time and effort Michael Jordan himself played in them. A lot of people don't really appreciate the lower numbered Jordan's because of how some of the colorways look and how plain and simple some are but for the low number's look's shouldn't and don't really matter in my opinion it's the history that lye behind these sneakers that actually make them what they're.

Air Jordan III -
The Air Jordan III released in 1988 during Michael Jordan's fourth NBA season. It was designed by Nike footwear designer Tinker Hatfield and introduced elephant print and visible Air to the Air Jordan Legacy. The elephant print was a hit for the III's and it was the new style way back. People went crazy for this new style of Jordan's and it was a new trend to later open up in the 90's.
The Air Jordan III's ARE one of the best styles to be released from Air Jordan & Nike, The style is so original, the material used is far from cheap, & the amount of work that was put into these pair of sneakers is amazing! The inspirations for the Air Jordan III's are Air Jordan I and II, the free throw dunk, an elephant, and last, but not least Michael Jordan. Nike’s selling strategy was simple, and great, they had Michael J and Mars known as (Spike Lee). After all the funny commercials they had you had to go out and buy yourself a pair.
In 87-88 when the Air Jordan III's just released they sold for $100.00. In 1994 when Nike re-released the Air Jay III's they retailed at 105.00, but just like the Air Jordan I and II models, they hit sales racks. In 01 and 03 when the Air Jordan III released one more time, the price tag was $100.00.

Air Jordan IV -
The year was 1989, and Tinker Hatfield was back at his tricks thinking up an idea for the Air Jordan IV's. How would he top and make the IV's a new and better more creative style than the Air Jordan III's? Tinker wanted to get further into performance and quality, rather than some other idea's that was used on the last three models previously released.
The Air Jordan IV's was first in the line that had an over-molded mesh. The reason for this is, the consumer would think the shoe was made of cheap fabric and low quality. So what Tinker did was dip the mesh in a soft plastic and blew air through it to clear out the plastic in between. Which in result made the sneaker higher and more rich in quality to show off more of the materials used in the process of making.
When the Air Jordan IV was first released in 89, people disliked the shoe, said it looked very ugly or hideous. Overtime the model grew on a lot of people. Another feature of the Air Jordan IV's was the capability to lace your IVs in 18 different patterns. This gave your IV's your own style and creativity. The overall personality of the Air Jordan IV was saying “get back to work”. Michael was a father and husband for the first time in his life, and since the Air Jordan III was such a luxurious model. Extreme Measure were taking with the IV's.

Air Jordan V -
When you look at the Air Jordan V besides the ICY soles, what else do you notice? What I notice is the flames on the side. Tinker came to the conclusion that Michael Jordan's performance was “like a Fighter Plane”. When the Air Jordan V was designed and created, the inspiration was “grey nurse shark” or Super marine Spitfire, which is a WWII British fighter plane. To add to the finishing touches of the shoe, Tinker added a reflective 3M tongue with Jump man embroidery which is now also on the 13's as well.
When the Air Jordan V first came out in 1990 they retailed for $125.00. In 00 when the Air Jordan V made its second appearance they sold for $120.00. In 2006 the Jordan Brand re-released the Air Jordan V once again, but this time with a $135.00 price tag.

Air Jordan VI -
What makes the Air Jordan VI so remarkable and unforgettable? Could it be that the Air Jordan VI was worn during Michael Jordan's first NBA title? Or could it be he won his first NBA Finals MVP? Maybe it is the material, or design, or the fabric of the Air Jordan VI. Which ever it may be, this is one shoe to remember forever.
On the Air Jordan VI Michael Jordan gave direct orders to have a clean toe, so Tinker Hatfield made sure the Air Jordan VI had a reinforcement around the toe area, making the Air Jordan VI the first basketball model sneaker to obtain this. Michael Jordan had problems putting on the past five models but had finally realized the right adjustments to now add on to the VI's to make them more unique than ever,
so Tinker designed two holes on the top of the tongue, and one loop on the back, calling it “a spoiler”.for the audience.
The Air Jordan VI was the second sneaker model to have the clear rubber sole. When the Air Jordan V was released a lot of people complained that their children were falling because the soles would collect dust that was on the court, hurting there feet, making the sole slippery. Now on the Air Jordan VI Tinker added a more solid rubber, so this problem would not happen ever again with a clear solution.
Michael Jordan wanted the heel tab positioned so it did not hit his Achilles tendon, making the Jordan VI the first sneaker to have any sort of molded structure on the back. The last touch Tinker gave was the number “23″ on the design of the sneaker. When the original Air Jordan VI came out in 91 there were five color way sneaker models retailing for $125.00. In 00 three models were re-released of the Air Jordan VI, selling for $120.00, and in 02 three low top versions came out which sold for $105.00. In 05 Jordan Brand released a DMP which stands for “Defining Moments Package”, which consisted of the Air Jordan VI and XI. Retail is $295.00.

Air Jordan VII -
Tinker Hatfield could be inspired by anything when it comes to the Air Jordan sneaker line. On the Air Jordan VII when Hatfield was in Portland, Oregon he saw a poster that was African art, influenced by an Afro-Pop Worldwide. The person in the poster was playing a guitar shaped like the continent Africa. Around the time when Hatfield was ready to design and create the Air Jordan VII Michael Jordan sat down with him and mentioned that he wanted the shoe to “stay young and interesting, while remaining sophisticated and have exquisiteness”.
Hatfield had now went inside the store and asked to purchase the poster, but the owner did not want to sell it because he was advertising a radio show and the Afro-Pop music. Hatfield had now told him he worked on the design of the Air Jordan line. The store owner finally gave in and decided to sell the poster to him for $15. All the lines on the Air Jordan VII were influenced by Western African tribal patterns & art which were on the poster. The Air Jordan VII was also worn by Michael Jordan in the 92 Barcelona Olympics. Nike had made a special “Olympic” color way, and instead of the number “23″ there was 9 on the back.
In 92 Nike had released five color ways of the Air Jordan VII. They sold for $125.00 each. In 02 two more models came out retailing at $125.00. In 04 the Olympic VII's came out and sold for $130.00. In 06 four models released which sold for $135.00, and one women’s model sold for $130.00.

Air Jordan VIII -
In 93 the Original Air Jordan VIII released in three color ways. The Color schemes were White/Black-True Red, Black/Bright Concord-Aqua Tone and Black-Black-True Red. They sold for $125.00. When 03 came, Jordan Brand released two more sneaker models of the Air Jordan VIII selling for $135.00, also two low cut versions of the Air Jordan VIII were released and sold for $110.00.
Tinker Hatfield wanted the Air Jordan VIII to not feature a Nike sign. He thought the Jordan Brand was strong enough at this point to hold its own. Hatfield brought up to Nike that the Jordan line was strong enough to start eliminating the Nike symbol at the Air Jordan VI. After Hatfield was done telling his story, Nike pretty much laughed in his face.
It took a lot of time, work, effort and a lot of convincing to make this happen, but it finally went through. If you look at the Original Air Jordan VIII model you will notice there is no Nike symbol.
The Air Jordan VIII started a lot of gossip through sneaker heads, basketball players, or hype beasts. The design was crazy, the Air Jordan VIII also had a poly- carbonate torsion plate, and to top it all off, the color ways blew people's mindset away. This was a stage to a new beginning in the sneaker game.
A sad feature and a con about the Air Jordan VIII was they were not as comfortable as other Air Jordan sneaker models. The straps (also called bunny ears) would make the shoe tight on the sides, so people with wide feet had a hard time wearing them. What the Air Jordan VIII did have going for it is: dura-buck uppers, Air sole, Huarache inner sleeve and anti-inversion cross-straps.

Air Jordan IX -
In 92-93 when Hatfield and Nike started working on the Air Jordan IX, Michael Jordan was in Asia to promote for Nike.
Hatfield was really influenced by Japanese design. There is a lot of features on the sneaker that you may not know which came from the Japanese culture.
Here is a comment from Hatfield on the Air Jordan IX:
“ The Air Jordan IX represented the globalization of the Air Jordan brand name. Everybody around the world wanted to be like Mike. Take a close look at the soles of the shoes, we designed the different languages around the world that describes the sporting spirit of Michael Jordan and what he has done for the world of sports.”
On the back of the Air Jordan IX you will see a “Rising Sun” with the Jump man logo. On the shoe it self there are words in different languages that best represents Michael Jordan, and those words are:
Left Shoe
Uhuru (Swahili) – “Independence”
Cвобода (Russian) – “Freedom”
Cпорт (Russian) – “Sport”
Athletisch (German) – “Athletic”
Muundaji (Swahili) – “Hope”
Right Shoe
Intenso (Italian) – “Intense”
Liberté (French) – “Freedom”
Anmutig (German) – “Graceful”
Fuerza (Spanish) – “Force”
Dédié (French) – “Dedicated”
The first sneaker model of the Air Jordan IX released in 93, and a total of four sneaker models came out that year. In 02 four more Air Jordan IX were released, and the set price was $125.00. Two models released of the Air Jordan IX lows selling for $115.00. In 02-03 an Air Jordan IX Cleat was made (they also came in Metal cleats and MCS 3/4).

Air Jordan X -
Michael Jordan was now away from the game of basketball, and he began a relatively short lived career playing in baseball. Many people thought the Air Jordan line was done, even Nike, but Hatfield had a different mindset. The Air Jordan X was the first sneaker model that Michael Jordan did not approve, he had talked to Hatfield at the beginning stages of the development, but nothing was set in stone. The quality of the shoe was up to par with huarache inner sleeve, leather uppers and a quick lace system, but something was not right with them. When the Air Jordan X was released, a lot of the sneaker models had a strap of leather going across the top of the toe, but then Nike came out with a clean-toed version (just how Michael Jordan liked his shoes). When Michael returned to the NBA he did wear the Jordan X, with his new baseball number “45″ on the side.
Since Hatfield and the people at Nike really thought that Michael Jordan was hanging the towel up for good, they wanted to show appreciation to what Michael had accomplished and achieved in his career. On the sole of the Air Jordan X Tinker and Nike listed Michael’s milestones for every year in the NBA (from 85-94) which are:
* 85 ROOKIE OF YEAR
* 86 63 POINTS
* 87 SCORING TITLE
* 88 DUNK CHAMP
* 89 ALL DEFENSE
* 90 SCORES 63 POINTS
* 91 MVP/CHAMPIONSHIP
* 92 MVP/CHAMPIONSHIP
* 93 MVP/CHAMPIONSHIP
* 94 BEYOND
In 94 when the original release of the Air Jordan X came out, a total of three sneaker models released, and a regional pack which had five different color ways representing five selected teams. Those lucky teams and some of my personal favorites are – Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Seattle Supersonics and the Chicago Bulls, and a pair of the Air Jordan X cleats were released, all retailing at $125.00. When 05 hit Jordan Brand knew it was time to re-release the Air Jordan X, so they sold for $125.00 and a total of 7 color ways and two of them were for women.

Air Jordan XI -
The Air Jordan XI are loved by many sneaker enthusiasts/ sneaker heads and are always a sell out. Michael Jordan was now back in the NBA, and the Air Jordan XI was his sneaker for the 95-96 season. But before Michael Jordan wore the model, Hatfield had to design them.
Tinker thought that Nike should pull out all the stops and make a sneaker out of materials that had never been used in a basketball sneaker. At first, Hatfield was thinking of using some high-end nylons, but good thing he changed his mind. Tinker wanted the Air Jordan XI to look like a convertible, with a shiny body, so that is why the Air Jordan XI has patent leather.
Not only was it the patent leather on the Air Jordan XI that made them special, but the addition of a lightweight Phylon mid-sole with a full-length Air-Sole unit and full-length carbon fiber plate, as well as being supportive. But sadly, there were some defects in them as no sneaker is perfect.
For the image of the sneaker itself, Hatfield was thinking of some inspirations. If you’re an artist, then anything can inspire you, so when Tinker saw a yellow lawn mower you wonder how he fit that into the Jordan XI. According to Hatfield: “There are designers out there designing lawn mowers to look like sports cars.”.In 95-96 playoffs, Michael Jordan had a bad spill wearing the Air Jordan XI, and the reason being is poor traction. Also the mid-sole would get creases very fast.
When the Air Jordan XI came out in 95 they sold for $124.99. Three mid's were released, and two I.E. lows (which sold for $115.00). Only five pairs of the Air Jordan XI “Space Jams” were made for Michael, for the movie Space Jam. Five colorways re-released in 01-02 going for $125.00. Eight Air Jordan XI lows were released in 01 which sold for $120.00, and two I.E. lows were released in 03 $119.00. In 06, a Defining Moments Package was released which contained the Air Jordan XI and Air Jordan VI.

Air Jordan XII -
A new year means a new sneaker design from Nike and Air Jordan! Nike Basketball was heading into a different direction with foamposite, shox, and big air bubbles in shoes. What can the Air Jordan XII do to compete? Believe it or not the Air Jordan XII got started with a woman’s fashion shoe from the 19th century called “Nisshoki”. Michael is big on fashion, and he knows women have a lot of it. He did not care if you made fun of him for wearing a women’s wrist band or something else feminine.
On the Air Jordan XII there was more than just the women’s high heel for inspiration, but also the Japanese Rising Sun flag played a big role in the making. The stitching down the sides resemble sun rays. If you look at past Air Jordan sneakers, you will notice the famous “23″ located somewhere on the sneaker model. On the Air Jordan XII, Michael wanted a different look with his number "23". So an idea came to Michael Jordan to have 23 written down the tongue, written like this: Two 3.
A lot of good qualities were on the Air Jordan XII, for example they had the Zoom Air unit (also the first Air Jordan to have a Zoom air unit), modified herringbone pattern for improved traction and a more improved carbon fiber shank plate, Creative huh?
When the Air Jordan XII first released in 96 they sold for $135.00, and five different color ways were released. In 03 two color ways released selling for $135.00, and a pair of Air Jordan XII cleats released. A couple months later an Air Jordan XII package was sold which came with the Air Jordan XII, pullover and hat which sold for $200 (online only). 04 was now here and four color ways came out of the Air Jordan XII, which went for $135.00, and three Air Jordan XII lows dropped selling for $115.00.

Air Jordan XIII -
When the Air Jordan XIII was being thought up, Michael and Tinker did not have a meeting before they drew up the designs. Hatfield had an idea. If you've ever watched Michael Jordan play then you would see the resemblance between him and a panther. Michael Jordan would watch his players, and all of a sudden he would make the move, and before you knew what happened Michael had the ball. It was like a lion in the wild hunting for it's prey.
Tinker later met with Michael and told him that he looked like a black cat, or panther. Funny thing was, between Michael and his friends, his nickname is “black cat”, for all the reasons Hatfield said: he would read his player, and strike like a panther.
The sole of the Air Jordan XIII is one of the most unique & creative soles ever released in the Jordan brand line. If you get a chance to look at the sole of them you will see a huge resemblance with a panthers paw.
By the heel of the Air Jordan XIII was a circle hologram. If you look close you will see the number "23", a basketball, and the Jump man logo. A downfall of the hologram is they can get fogged up over time. Also over time the soles that are white will bleed (happens just about every time on the Original Air Jordan XIII).
In 97-98 five models of the Air Jordan XIII was released (retail for $150.00), and two low models (retail for $130.00). Jordan Brand re-released the Air Jordan XIII in 04-05. Six color ways were released and were going for $150.00. Also six color ways of the Air Jordan XIII lows were re-released in 05 which went for $130.00. Two different color ways of cleats were also released ($99.99)

Air Jordan XIV -
The Air Jordan XIV has room in every ones hearts. Maybe not by the looks, but the Air Jordan XIV was the last sneaker model that Air Jordan Michael Jordan wore in a Chicago Bulls jersey.
At the time Michael owned a Ferrari F355F1. The design of the Ferrari F355F1 looks exactly like the shield on the Air Jordan XIV, and the vents on the side of the Ferrari F355F1 were also used on the Air Jordan XIV.
The Air Jordan XIV was the first to have silver tips on the laces, which also had a Jump man logo. Each pair had a total of seven jump man logo’s, which together equals out to fourteen (XIV). Low profile Zoom Air Units were located at the forefoot and heel. If your feet sweat while you play, then the vent on the side should help out.
With all the good qualities of the Air Jordan XIV you might think nothing could go wrong with them, but sadly there are a couple minor flaws/cons. The toe box area would come unglued over time. Also the teeth on the sides (phylon mid-sole) would crease very quickly.
In 98-99 five color ways released of the Air Jordan XIV ($150.00), and three low model types ($130.00). In 05-06 a total of ten color ways re-released of the Air Jordan XIV ($150.00), and two low models re-released ($130.00).
